Xavier and I gave lectures and workshops, while Sankalp, Ajay, Gopala, from the CompMusic team, and Nadine Kroher, Felipe Navarro, and Robert Clouth from the SMC master were involved as students. The musical focus was makam music of Turkey and because of this a number of CompMusic people were involved. This was the first summer school and it was held in Genova, at the Conservatorio Niccolò Paganini. The program will last three years, organizing a summer school in a different country and with a different focus each year. Each institution brings their own expertise to the project such as (acoustic/electronic) musicianship, composition, ethnomusicology and music technology. The program is coordinated by Conservatorio Niccolò Paganini (Genoa) with the participation of Bilgi University (Istanbul), Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory (Istanbul), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and Conservatorio Statale di Musica “G.P. This landmark was built by the Genoese in the 14 th century. An example is the Galata Tower in Istanbul, which also gives its name to the orchestra. These three Mediterranean harbor-cities have been in commercial and cultural exchange for centuries, and share numerous historical, sociological, cultural and architectural connections. GEO-IP is a summer school under the Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme whose aim is to fuse the traditional music of Istanbul, Genoa and Barcelona with contemporary electronic music. From the 15th to the 26th of July 2013, some members of the MTG participated to the Galata Electroacoustic Orchestra Intensive Program (GEO-IP).
